The Galaxy Railways

The Galaxy Railways thumbnail: Trains! In space! Why not!?

A friend of mine says that The Galaxy Railways is absurd beyond belief, but gets a bonus for sticking to its absurd premise consistently. I’ll go a step further and say that Railways is, by far, the most unbelievable anime series I’ve ever seen on an episode by episode basis. Trains roll through space with designs centuries in the past and technology centuries into the future. The over the top prose alternatively given by either the characters or a narrator just serve to add to the wonderland feel of the show. The Galaxy Express 999 makes an appearance, for anyone who’s followed that series.

Make no mistake about it – Galaxy Railways is enjoyable. It’s just absurd, and questionable in a wide variety of ways. The magic present and more prominent as the series progesses shows that it’s also not meant to be taken too seriously. Characters in the series are slightly puzzled by mysterious happenings, but it hardly challenges their sense of reality.
