The Adventures of Mini-Goddess is a fun, and funny, little anime based on the “Ah! My Goddess” franchise. I’ll admit upfront that I’ve only seen a few episodes of the Ah! My Goddess TV series, so I may not be the best person to judge this series of shorts. Still, I liked it.

The opening explains that three goddesses have come to live with a college student (I knew this already…) and shrink themselves down when he’s gone “for a lark.” I suppose if you’re a transcendent being of immense power, there is a sort of humorous irony in only being a few inches tall and talking to rats. Yes, a rat, Gan-chan, follows Urd, Skuld, and Belldandy around. The explore the attic, do battle with robots, play “The Game of Life”, investigate a mysterious vending machine, go into outer space, fight Yakuza-rats, and time-travel. There’s relatively little 3rd wall integrity, with characters often addressing the audience. The situations, characters, and references all have a subtle but excellent humor against a colorful background.
