My HiME

My HiME thumbnail: Hail to the Chief. Shizuru, Student Council President. I was on a high school student council once; believe me, it's not as cool as it looks in anime by a long shot.
My HiME thumbnail: She's on fire. Mai gets ready to fight for her brother's safety.
My HiME thumbnail: Hungry like the Wolf. Natsuki and her "child", Duran.

It is appropriate that My HiME was destined to become known as one of the best anime series ever, since it’s a show about destiny itself. Mai and her brother are traveling to their new school when a fight breaks out between two other figures with mysterious powers on their ship, one with a mechanical wolf, and the other with a sword capable of spliting the earth and anything else in the way asunder.

Mai discovers that she also has some equally strange and previously unknown abilities. Things are not all as they seem at the Academy when they arrive, and betrayal and conspiracy lurk just below the surface. A top-notch soundtrack easily rivals that of any other anime series. The designs of the “children” that the HiMEs summon are especially interesting, and put to good use in the various action-packed battles that are infused throughout this series.

The anime has some enjoyable “fluff” episodes. When a underwear stealing orphan with a particularly demonic appearance shows up on campus, it’s another couple of opportunities for Natsuki to be embarrassed. Another episode has students baking cakes in a contest against one another for a class with interesting results.

Nagi, a mysterious figure, is a bit of a troublemaker who leads Mai into summoning Kagutsuchi, her “child”, which tosses around massive fire attacks as if they were no problem at all and is an awe-inspiring sight – so much so that orphans are more inclines to retreat or stand still than to fight in its presence.
