I just finished going through all the currently available episodes of Code Geass with Silence. Wow. I don’t think I’ve ever felt quite this way about an anime before – if this show doesn’t become the NGE of the 2000s, I simply don’t what will. Everything about this anime is perfect, and I can’t wait to see a U.S. release.
Code Geuss takes places in an alternate timeline in which the British Empire never stopped growing in influence or power. In the near future, Britiannia has developed Knightmares, decent mechs on roller skates, which makes its military virtually unstoppable. The world is basically split between The Holy Empire of Britannia, China, and Europe. Seven years ago, Britania invaded Japan, and annexed it as “Area 11.” The anti-hero of Geass is Lalouche, a high school student with secret ties to the (in this universe evil and still very autocratic) royal family. Lalouche’s mother was killed when he was younger, and he now seeks revenge – he is given the opportunity when he obtains the power to irrefusably order anyone to commit any act from a mysterious girl known only as “C.C.”
With his sharp strategic skills, tactical know-how, and aid from his Geass and C.C., he takes over a group dedicated to restoring Japan, and builds it up from a rag-tag group of terrorists to a full-blown rebellion.
