First of all, for those of you who have been wondering what happened to FanCruft, a new review for D.N.Angel has just been posted – I highly recommend this series.
Secondly, one (of many) reasons why I haven’t been updating lately is that I’ve been playing RPGs. For those of you that don’t know, a typical console RPG takes not hours, but DAYS to complete. Specifically, I’ve been playing Xenosaga III and Disgaea 2, both of which I would highly recommend. Final Fantasy is also afoot, with Dirge of Cerberus being release just a few months ago and XII due “real soon now.”
For those of you who have been following Xenosaga, Thus Spoke Zarathustra is the perfect ending. If you’ve ever wondered how you’re going to defeat not 1, not 2, but for well-nigh invincible testaments, play the game and find out! For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, pick up a copy of Der Wille Zu Macht now – you’ll be well rewarded for it, and for playing through the slightly weaker Jenseits von Gut und Bose.
Disgaea 2 includes a trailer for the anime. I haven’t seen any of it yet, but a few things strike me. First, it’s true what they say – the animation is really cheap. Really cheap. Secondly, the voice acting is a touch off. Granted that some of the best voices of the original Disgaea game are associated to some extent with ADV, there’s one particular voice that stands out as truely atrocious. I won’t name names (ANN and IMDB don’t have them yet) and I won’t even mention the character, but I’m willing to bet if you close your eyes and listen, you’ll notice a few lines of dialog as being spoken by someone who either
- hates anime and all it stands for
- was hired off the street five minutes before they started recording
- recently received a phone call from 1988, where such talent is required to put together high-quality dubs in someone’s basement
.
