Angel Tales

Angel Tales thumbnail: The vanity in the background is really an import from Byston Well.

Watching Angel Tales is a little bit like dancing around your bedroom in your underwear – it may be fun, but you wouldn’t want most people to see you doing it. Deserving of the label of “harem anime” if there ever was such a thing, Angel Tales tells the tale of angels with tails (or so the opening theme claims). More specifically, it follows Goro Mutsumi, highly generic 20-somethinger, and 12 pets kept by him throughout the course of his life that reincarnate as guardian angels to help him along. Some of these pets are fairly absurd – cats and dogs are standard fair, but a monkey or a fox? All of these guardian angels fawn over Goro unconditionally, often fighting with one another for his attention. The memorable scenes of the series include Goro’s response to a complaint by one of the angels that he isn’t bossing them around like he should – he simply says that he could never do such a thing because simply being around them gives him so much joy. Gag!
